Applying for Passport? Take General Information About Passport- PASSPORT SEVA

Passport is a document given or authorized by the Indian government. It is a legal document of nationality. Passport helps us to travel internationally by the passport act (1967). Now a day’s passport is the most trusted document of identification and nationality all over the world. If you want to explore another country then you have to take the permission of that country (is called visa of that country). This permission is provided by that country`s Embassy. This permission is in the sense of stamp, so the passport is a document using to get these stamps.  Having a passport is made easy by the online application process. It’s an easy process but followed by strict rules and regulations. The Indian government is taking care of do not get a passport to fraud or thieves.  Indian passports are issued by 93 passport offices spread all over India which are called Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). Some post offices and district passport cells are connected to passport Seva Kendra.


Ordinary passport contains 36 pages (Rs.1500/-). If you are frequent travelers going abroad then I suggest you for Jumbo passport, it contains 60 pages (Rs.2000/-). At the time of submission passport application, you have to pay additional fees of Rs.500/- extra. I advise applying initially for an ordinary passport with Rs.1500/- fees. Afterword’s if your passport pages are exhausted you can apply for a jumbo passport.

Basically passport is a document which is a proof of our nationality internationally. Ministry of external affairs is held all the commands related with passport. There are two versions of passports the first one published in 1920 and second 1986 which is uses till now. There are different types of passports they are follows;
  • Diplomatic passport (orange color cover): it is issued to top rank government officers and diplomats. It is type D passport, where d means diplomats.
  •  Official passport (white cover):  Official passports are issued to individual business representing to India. It is a type S passport, where s means service.
  • Ordinary passport (dark blue color cover): ordinary passport is type P passport means personal type passport. It allows to study, tours, business, trips etc.


Basic procedure to apply:

Application for passport:  We can apply for passport online and offline ether ways.  

Offline application:  

In offline way you have to download the offline passport form. Fill it as per rules of ministry of external affairs and submit it at post office or passport seva Kendra with related document. 

Online application 

Online passport form is filling at the official government website www.passportindia.gov.in. First you have to do registration process in that website. At your mail ID passport India send a mail for confirmation of mail id. When you get the mail click that link to confirm you ID. Then start filling form (for guidance refer article how to fill form)  

Pay Fee:  Passport application has various fee structures as per types of passport, age of applicant, pages of passport and type of services mean normal passport or tatkaal passport required. For example fee for normal passport for child is 1000 rs and same for adults is 1500rs. Online Payment has been made mandatory for booking appointment to visit a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). Online payment for application is done by different modes like: By using credit or debit card, Internet banking (SBI bank and associate banks) and SBI Bank challan. If you are a Tatkaal services applicant then you have to pay only normal internet banking only and the balance fee you can pay by cash at passport seva kendra. The validity of online payment is one year from appointment date. This fee is not returnable, refundable and exchangeable.

Upload required documents:

You required two important documents which are identity proof and address proof. You have to upload your documents when you filling form. Also you have to verify your documents at Passport Seva Kendra near you. Document verification and Interview:After uploading your documents you have to go passport office and verify your document. First check appointment for document verification at your near passport office. At that date you have to go with your original documents, they check it clear your passport for next process.     At that location you have to go through a small interview. Some basic questions are asked in that interview. 

Police Clearance Certificate:

Time required for issuing Police clearance Certificate under various conditions or cases refers belows list:
1. Police Verification Report in respect of the existing passport is clear and there is no subsequent adverse entry in the system  Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) will be issued on the same day at PSK.

2. a) Police Verification was not required when the passport was issued as the applicant was then a minor and has now become an adult.

b) Police Verification was not required when the passport was issued as the applicant was a dependent of a Government employee.

c) Police Verification process could not be completed at the time of issuance of passport due to various reasons. 

d) Applicant's present address is different from that mentioned in the passport. 

e) Any other such cases where passport was issued without police verification.

First step of police clearance certificate is police varification process. After completion of PCC you got informed a mail or text or letter from passport office.

Passport Seva Kendra (PSK):

In India passport division is included under of External Affairs ministry through Central Passport Organization (CPO). Passport seva Kendra, visa offices are included under ministry. 37 Passport offices spread over country included CPV division which provides Diplomatic and Official passports. This passport network is expanded by additions of 77 passport seva Kendra`s. At Andaman and Nicobar Island extra administration office is provided.

What Information Passport Contains:

Standard passports may contain information such as the holder's name, place and date of birth, photograph, signature, and other identifying information.
